A. THE EXCELLENCE OF DUROOD SHAREEF FOR THE UMMAH AS EXPLAINED IN THE HOLY QURAN AND AHADITH

This book contains valuable information about Durood Shareef (Salawat) on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

The message of Allah Ta'ala to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) has come down to us in the form of the Holy Quran and the teachings of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) have reached us in the form of the Ahadith. Let us see what both the Holy Quran and Ahadith say about Durood Shareef (Salawat):

Innal llaha wa Malaa'ikatahu Yu salluna allan nabiyi.

Ya Ayyuhal lazeena aamanu sallu alaihi wasallimu tasleema.

Almighty Allah says: "Surely Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). O you who believe! Send Blessings (Durood) and Salutations (Salaams) on the Prophet with worthy Salutation".(Surah al-Ahzab: 56)

In this verse of the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah, His Malaa'ikah and the Muslims have been mentioned as sending Durood upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). So, Durood Shareef is actually "a Du'a in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim)."

Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) said: "He who reads a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times, ten of his sins are forgiven, and he is increased ten times in stages (internally). (Mishkaat)

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Ma'sud (radi Allahu anhu) also narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) said: "On the Day of Qiyamah, the closest to me from among the people will be those who have read the most amount of Durood Shareef". (Tirmidhi)

It is now evident that the recitation of Durood Shareef (Salawat) is in perfect obedience to the Divine Command and in complete conformity with the teachings of Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) of Islam. There is no scope to choose anything else when we have with us the words of Allah Ta'ala and His Apostle, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

B. WHAT IS DUROOD SHAREEF AND THE IMPORTANCE OF DUROOD SHAREEF

Divine blessings on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) is the highest and the most meritorious act in our Deen. This "Divine Blessings" is called Durood Shareef.

When Almighty Allah sends Durood and Salaams upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), He is actually blessing him. When the Malaa'ikah and the Muslims send Durood and Salaams to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), they are actually showing Almighty Allah their respect for the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

Muslims hope that, through the blessings of the Durood and Salaams, Almighty Allah will forgive them of their sins and increase their status in this world and in the Aakirah. The Malaa'ikah hope that Almighty Allah will increase their status.

Durood is a sure means of Allah Ta'ala granting blessings, peace, prosperity and favours of great magnitude on one who recites Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). The reciter of Durood Shareef receives all the benefits in this world and utmost gain in the next world with addition to the love of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

The invocation of Blessings on the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) is styled in Arabic as "Salawat", in Persian as "Durood", and in Urdu as "Salawat-o-Salaam".

The regular recitation of Durood Shareef on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) lifts up our hearts on to a plane of comprehension where we gaze in our new found peace and moral armour.

The reciter of Durood Shareef will, after some time, come to realise by himself that it is the spontaneous outpouring of his heart before the Great Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) of Islam, whose love and attachment is needed to get all the present day problems solved and obtain mercy in the next world.

The more Durood Shareef we recite, the greater the gain and benefit will be achieved in both the worlds. Hazrat Shaikh-e-Akbar Mo'inuddin ibn Arabi (radi Allahu anhu) has stated that, "Those who claim to love and revere the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) should increase their recital of the Durood Shareef in patience and perseverance until, through the mercy of Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), they have the opportunity of witnessing his blessed countenance".

The special and exclusive aspect of this prayer is that Durood Shareef is immediately accepted by Allah Ta'ala. No one can doubt its acceptance, as Durood Shareef is being recited by Allah Ta'ala too. Not only this, but He has revealed this secret in the Holy Quran by saying:

Wara fa'na laka zikrah
"Have I not exalted thy name."

Muslims are a very fortunate people. Allah Ta'ala chose for them the name of Islam as a religion, declared to be comprehensive and final for mankind. The person chose to deliver this message in this specific form and extra-ordinary style of love and hope was the most beloved of Allah Ta'ala and became the Light of Divinity to be shed upon the entire universe. This Light devastated all the domains of darkness and depression. By reciting Durood Shareef (Salawat) we invite Light and drive away all darkness from our inner soul. Our mind becomes soft and love saturated. If there is softness in everything, it tends beauty to it. People become ugly owing to lack of this essential beauty of the inner part of the mind. This ugliness cannot be glossed over by any amount of cosmetics. It is the Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) which works wonders.

In the same manner, the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) taught us Durood Shareef to attain salvation, perfect peace and maximum gain in this world as well as the next. The soul is the soil where the faith of Allah is to be implanted firmly and faithfully which requires continuous recitation of Durood Shareef to thrive and flourish.

We have been told by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) that Durood Shareef is itself Light and when Light enters the soul every aspiration is achieved and every goal is won. Nothing remains thereafter to worry about.

Human spirit today is depressed everywhere and mankind has come to the edge of destruction, decay and devastation. Everyone is engulfed in untold miseries and tragedies of a very great magnitude. Troubles and tortures, pain, poverty, hunger, ill-health, frustrations and accidents have broken the back of a human being. All this can evaporate with the recitation of Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) who has clearly proclaimed that Durood Shareef is the panacea of all ills and that if any one comes across a calamity he should recite Durood Shareef in the maximum number. Allah Ta'ala has promised that if anyone recites Durood only once, He showers ten blessings on the reciter immediately.

It is narrated that once Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) walked a very long distance in the desert during summer at noon. He fainted due to thirst and hunger. After a while, when he regained his consciousness, Allah Ta'ala sent Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to go and inquire from Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) if he was thirsty or not. Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) replied that he was thirsty. Allah Ta'ala told him that the thirst on the Day of Judgement will be a million times more than what Hazrat Moosa (alaihis salaam) experienced. Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) was told that if he wished to get rid of that thirst on the hottest Day of Judgement, he would have to do one thing. When Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) enquired as to what should be done, Allah Ta'ala told him that he should recite Durood Shareef in abundance on His last Prophet, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) thanked Allah Ta'ala and immediately began reciting Durood Shareef on the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

From the above fact it is quite clear that Allah Ta'ala has given orders even to his Ambiya to recite Salawat on the last and final Prophet of Islam, and that Durood Shareef is not only panacea and a solution to the ills of this world but in the next too.

In another story, it is narrated that when Hazrat Adam (alaihis salaam) saw Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) he wanted to be close to her, but Allah Ta'ala sent Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to stop him. Allah Ta'ala told him that if he wanted to take Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) as his wife, he should first pay Mahr (dowry). On his inquiry as to what the Mahr was, Allah Ta'ala told Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to inform him that the best way of paying the dowry is for him to recite Durood Shareef 3 times on His last Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). Hazrat Adam (alaihis salaam) did so, Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) was granted to him as his legal and legitimate wife.

The highest blessings which Islam has conferred on man is the concept of Tauheed or Unity of Allah in its purest form. This has been furnished to mankind through Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), the last of the Prophets. It is a cardinal duty of every Muslim man and woman, young and old to entertain the highest respect, regard, love and esteem for the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) and his family. It should be clear that obedience to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) is always to be charged with intense love and highest regard for him, for it is through love and esteem that truth can be comprehended and communion with the Creator can be vouch-safed. In fact, love is the motive force, reverence dissolves and implicit obedience to the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) which is the natural outcome. It is therefore incumbent on those who love him, to pray to Allah Ta'ala and His Angels in wishing for him peace according to the Divine Command. This will reshape the life which is otherwise infested with turmoil. The reciter will get countless and matchless benefits in both the Worlds and can claim to be the lover of Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

As Muslims we should recite Durood Shareef in the Arabic language. Islam seeks to create a unified outlook and it is in the Arabic language alone which welds all Muslims into one great brotherhood. Besides, Arabic is the language of Heaven, it is the language of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), it is the language of the Angels and it is the language of Hazrat Abu-Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Uthman and Hazrat Ali (radi Allahu anhuma).

The daily recitation of Durood Shareef has a tremendous effect on the human head, heart, mind and person. It purifies thoughts and intensifies actions. It makes passages for perfect peace and personal satisfaction.

Bi Rahmatika Yaa Arhamar Rahimeem.

This collection of Isnaads for Dua's and Darood is taken from a booklet in Urdu entitled ' Ganjeena Akbaari' published Kutub Khaana ' Ishaatul Islaam. These Daroods and Du'as may also be found in the well known book 'Faqri Majmu'a Wazaa'eef' as well as in the books 'Yazdah Surah Shaeef', and 'Majmu'a Wazaa'eef'. The Isnaads found in this booklet [presently in your hands] are English renderings of isnaads found in Ganjeena Akbaari although Isnaads for these Dua's and Daroods are also found in the above cited works as well some what in greater detail. The renderings were done by Mr. Jawhar Jafri of New Port News Virginia.

Many of the Dua's and Daroods have medicinal usages and as such the editor is not qualified to give permission for their use. Those wishing to benefit from the medicinal aspects or to use them as a Ta'weez must seek permission from a competent Shaykh whom Allahu ta 'ala has given permission to let flow the Shifaa [healing] and protective [Ta'weez] powers of these various Dua's and Daroods. Be aware that using various Dua's and Names of Allahu ta 'ala [Asmaa ul Husnaa] without the expert guidance of a Qualified Doctor of the Heart [qalb] is tantamount to prescribing medicine for oneself without knowing which medicine to choose for the illness. It is generally known by all those whom Allahu ta 'ala has given hikmah that only qualified physicians know how to heal. If one were suffering from a physical malady such as heart disease or cancer one would go to a physician who specializes in healing those maladies bi ithnillah [with Allahu ta 'ala's permission].

We pray that Allahu ta 'ala accept the efforts of the editor and illuminate the blessed face of El Imam Shaykh Muhyideen Sayyid Mubaarik 'Ali Shah Jilaani Hashimi our Perfect Mursheed who first introduced us to these various Daroods and Dua's at the beginning of the 15th century Hijra. These Dua's and Daroods have served to heal many of our illnesses and have brought comfort to our hearts and homes. Hazrat Shaykh also made available to us audio cassettes of several of these Daroods and Dua's by which many were healed and were able to learn these Dua's. Our children began to recite these Dua's and Daroods and our hearts soared.

We pray that all those who were given permission to recite these Dua's will continue to recite. Those who have given up reciting should once again go back to reciting [taking the medicine]. We ask Allah Subhaana Hoo to send the Thawaab [Esaale Sawaab] of this booklet on the souls of Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim and Ahli Bayt Ridhwaan Allahu ta 'ala alaihim aj'maeen and all those who have been fortunate enough to have gone forth to meet their Rabb in the Path Fee Sabee lillah and in the suhbah [companionship] of our Blessed Shaykh, Ameen.

Darood Taj

There are limitless benefits for this Blessed Darood Sharif [ Salaat 'alan Nabi Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim] and they cannot all be written out in this short booklet. A few are mentioned.

If some one wants to see Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim, then at the height of the month on Yawmul Jumu'ah [Friday] after salaatul Ishaa having performed wudhu and putting on Attar he should recite this Darood Taj seventy [70] times and sleep after that. If he does this for eleven [11] nights, Inshaa Allahu ta 'ala he will see Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim.

For clearing his heart, he should recite this Darood Taj after Salaatul Fajr seven times, and again, three times after Salaatul Asr and Salaatul 'Ishaa respectively. For repelling the Magic of Jinn and the Shayateen, and to be safe from an epidemic and any other diseases, he recites it eleven times.

For being safe from enemies and the Hasid [jealousy] of the Haasideen and the oppression of oppressive rulers, and to be rid of sadness and grief, he should recite this Darood Taj for forty [40] nights after Salaatul 'Ishaa forty one [41] times.

Darood Lakhi

Hazrat Sultan Mahmood al Ghaznawi Rahmatullah alaih, used to recite as a wazeefah [ma'moolaat] with pure intentions and a lot of love this Darood one lakh times. Because of reading this long Darood one hundred thousand times, the whole day would go by and he wouldn't have much time for the administration of government. One night he saw Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim, who informed Hazrat Sultan Mahmood Rahmatullah alaih that the Ummat was is need of his work and the administration of government is dependent on Hazrat Sultan Mahmood al Ghaznawi. Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim then informed the Sultan that if he recites this Darood Sharif after Salaatul Fajr once, he will receive the thawaab of having recited it one lakh times and that with the barakah of this Darood he will have lots of love for Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim, and if he recites it more than once he will get the thawab of one lakh [ one hundred thousand ] times each time he does so.

Hazrat Sultan Mahmood al Ghaznawi Rahmatullah alaih, because of this order of Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallim recited this Darood once thereafter. He said to all the people based on this riwayah, that anyone from among the Ummati Muhammadi who recites it once will receive the thawaab of having recited this blessed Darood Lakhi one hundred thousand times!

Darood Hazaari

Who ever recites this Darood Hazaari in the Qabrastan [Muslim grave yard] three times, Allahu ta 'ala will take away the punishment of the grave of eighty [80] years. And whoever recites it four times in the Qabrastan Allah Subhaana Hoo will take away the Athaab ul Quboor [punishment of the grave] until the day of judgement. Who ever recites it twenty four times Allah Subhaana Hoo will send a thousand angels who will look over, oversee and protect his parents in the grave till the Day of Judgement.

Ahad Naamah

Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim said : "Whoever recites this Ahad Naamah one in his lifetime, he will be taken away with Imaan [true faith] in his heart." And Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim says that he guarantees that this person will go to Jannah [Paradise]. Hazrat Jaabir Rathia Allahu anh says that he heard Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim say: " Man has three thousand [3000] types of diseases in his body, One thousand of these diseases doctors have medicine for and they can treat these. two thousand are such that there is no medicine to cure them. Whoever will keep this Ahad Naamah with them Allah [Subhaana Hoo] will save him from the two thousand [2000] diseases. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq Rathia Allahu anh says, " Whoever keeps this Ahad Naamah with him will be safe from snakes and scorpions, and magic will have no effect on him and people who think bad of him will not be able to say anything bad about him. Hazrat Khaatuna Jannat Rathi Allahu ta 'ala anhaa says she heard Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim say: "Whoever will use this Ahad Naamah in a time of difficulty his need will be fulfilled". Whoever will write this Ahad Naamah with Misk [musk] and Zafran [saffron] and drinks it, washing it with water, his aql [intelligence] will improve, and whoever memorizes it or some of it and whatever he memorizes he does not forget, that will also help his memory.

Hazrat Amir ul Mu'mineen [the isnaad doesn't say which] Rathia Allahu anhu says that whoever reads this Ahad Naamah and give the thawaab to someone who is deceased, the grave of such a person will be lighted from east to west. If someone puts it in the grave, the deceased person will get the thawaab of Prophets. When Munkar and Nakir [the questioning angels] come to question him their questions will be made easy on such a person. Allah Subhaana Hoo will take the Athaab [chastisement] away from his grave one lakh yards [one hundred thousand] to the right, forty thousand yards to the left, forty thousand yards from his head and forty thousand yards from his feet. The grave will be so wide that the eye will not be able to comprehend.

Allah Subhaana Hoo has given this property to this Ahad Naamah, If it is kept in a grave on Yawm ul Qiyaamah [the Day of Standing] the person will rise from the grave as if it is an angel and he will wear the garments of Jannah [Paradise]. He will have Buraaq for riding and Allah Subhaana Hoo will say to this person: "I have an Ahad [covenant] with you that you will be happy because you read this Ahad Naamah in the world every day. I am going to fulfill this promise today and I am going to put a crown on your head and I am going to give you the garments of Jannah. I am going to give you Buraaq to ride on. There will be no questioning from you and you will be sent to Jannah without any chastisement and I will also forgive any person who you ask me to forgive." And he will be sent to Jannah in this manner. His face will be lit like the full moon on the fourteenth night. The people of Mizaan ul Hashr will say that this person must be a prophet or a Wali or one of the Salihoon. The Angels guarding Jannah will say: " No, this person is not a Prophet, he is just a slave of Allah Subhaana Hoo from the Ummah of Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim. The only reason his face is lit like this and why he is wearing the garments of Jannah is because he used to keep the Ahad Naamah with him and this is the Noor and Barakah of this Ahad Naamah, that he is in this blessed position." The people will say: "We were in the world for such and such a time. It is sad that we did not use Ahad Naamah at that time, and we were sort of away from it."

Qasidah Ghausia of Hazrat Ghausul Thakalayn [Sirra min sirra Hoo]

There are a lot of properties associated with this Blessed Qasidah Ghauthiyah of Hadhrat Muhyuddin Sheikh Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jilaani. Among them, the person that recites this Qasida Ghausia eleven [11] times every day will be near and dear to Allahu Subhaana Hoo. Secondly whoever recites this Qasidah Ghausia, his memory will be strengthened so much so that whatever he reads or hears he will remember. Thirdly, by reading this Qasidah Ghausia will be able learn the Arabic language easily. Fourthly, whoever recites this Qasidah Ghausia for forty days for a particular purpose he will be able to fulfill that. Fifthly, if a person keeps this Qasidah Ghausia in from of his eyes and reads it three times a day, and if he doesn't know how to read, he listens to it recitation and doesn't separate from this Blessed Qasidah Ghausia, and has a strong belief and love for what he is listening to or reciting, then he will see Hazrat Ghausul Thakalayn Sirra min Sirra Hoo. By reciting this Blessed Qasidah Ghausia, a nisbah [ spiritual connection] is formed with the sincere reciter and Hazrat Ghausul Thakalayn Sirra min Sirra Hoo.

Dua Ganjul Arsh

One day Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim was sitting in the Masjid and Hazrat Jibreel Alaihi Salaam brought this Dua' to Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim. The riwaaya of this Dua' is very long. The gist of the isnaad is given.

Hazrat Jibreel Alaihi Salaam said that in addition to a lot of Fadhaail [favors] in this Dua', the reciter gets three things from Allahu ta 'ala. Firstly, Allah Subhaana Hoo gives him rizq [livelihood] from the ghayb [unknown sources], and thirdly, whoever recites this Dua' his enemies will not be able to overcome him. He will be superior to them. The person who does jihad will have the upper hand. He goes on a journey, he will come back with all his things. He will be safe from the shaat of shaytaan na'oootho Billahi min ash shaytanir rajeem. He will be safe from all the bad things and insects and other things on earth and al the bad things in the skies. If a person writes this Dua' out and drinks it using rain water, he will get help for various diseases. If a person suffers from an unknown illness for which the worldly doctors can find no cure and he writes it [with permission of a True Shaykh or his Khalifa etc.] with Zafran [saffron] and washes it and drinks it for twenty one [21] days he will get health from that Bi Ithnillah. If he doesn't have children, he will get children with the help of this Dua'.

Once a criminal was to be beheaded. He was brought before the Sultan in Madinatul Munawwarah and given the death penalty. The executioner tried his sword three times but was unable to kill him. He then tried drowning him unsuccessfully. He tried several ways to kill him to no avail. The Sultan then asked the criminal why the executioner was unable to execute him. The criminal informed the Sultan that he had a Ta'weez, Dua Ganjul 'Arsh and that from the barakah of the Kalaam [words] of this Dua' Ganjul 'Arsh Allahu Subhaana Hoo was saving him. The ruler took this Ta'weez from him, freed him and used to recite Dua' Ganjul 'Arsh from that time on.

Dua' Nur

One day Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim was sitting in the Masjid in Madinatul Munawwarah and Hazrat Jibreel Alaihi Salaam came to him and said: "Allah Subhaana wa ta 'ala has sent His salaams to you and He has also sent a gift of the Dua' Nur to you and your Ummah. This Dua' was not sent to the earlier Ummah's but it has been sent to your Ummah so that this can be a means of forgiveness [maghfirah] for this Ummah. A person who recites or keeps this Dua with him will live a good life in this world and he will die with Imaan[ true faith] On the Day of Judgement his face will shine like the full moon of the fourteenth night. When the other people see this person on the Day of Judgement they will think he is a Prophet or Wali [friend] of Allahu ta 'ala. They will be told that this person is one of the Ummati Muhammadi and that this distinction has been given to him by virtue of his having recited Dua' Nur. Now it is incumbent upon all the Muslims in the Ummati Muhammadi to spread this Dua and not be stingy. Whoever recites this Dua will not be under any debt and will not be sick. He will always prosper and will be healthy. He will be away from sorrow and cruelty of the cruel rulers. If he goes for Jihad he will be victorious. The swords, arrows and guns will not effect him. If he goes on a journey he will come back safe and sound. Whoever keeps this Dua' with him Allahu Subhaana wa ta 'ala will bestow his Rahmah on such a person.

Dua' Jamilah

Whoever recites the Names of Allahu ta 'ala contained in this Blessed Dua' Jamilahafter Salaatul Fajr, gets the thawaab as though he performed Hajj one hundred [100] times of the same blessings of Hazrat Adam Safiy Allah Alaihi Salaam. And whoever recites it after Salaatul Thur it is as if he has performed three hundred [300] Hajj with the same barakah as Hazrat Ibraheem Khaleel Allah Alaihi Salaam. The one who recites it after Salaatul Asr received the reward of having performed one hundred [100] Hajj with the same barakah as Hazrat Isa Ruhullah Alaihi Salaam. The one who recites it after Salaatul Maghrib receives a reward as though he performed Hajj seven hundred [700] times with the same barakah [blessings] of Hazrat Yunus Alaihi Salaam. Who ever recites it after Salaat ul 'Ishaa receives a reward equivalent to one thousand [1000] Hajj as that performed by Hazrat Musa Kaleemullah Alaihi Salaam. The one who recites it after Tahajjud it is as though he has performed one hundred thousand [100.000] Hajj receiving the barakah of the Hajj as performed By Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim. He also receives the barakah of reciting of having freed a thousand hungry people and of having given water to a thousand thirsty persons. Whoever doubts this has committed a sin. Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim asked him: " O my brother Jibreel, tell me the thawaab in this Dua for me and my Ummat." Dua' Ashura

O Muslims remember that Allahu ta ala has given you tawfiq in that you start the New Year with Muharram ul Haraam and Allahu ta has given some special favors in this month. Several ahadith have been transmitted about the fadhaail [benefits] of this month. In one hadith Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim has said that the best sawm [fast] after the month of Ramadhan is the sawm of Muharram. And the best salaat after fardh salaat is Salaatul Tahajjud. Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim has said that whoever fasts the first day of Muharram and the last day of Dhul Hijjah, he has started the New Year with fasting and has spent the last year fasting. These two fasts will nullify the sins of the past fifty [50] years.

The Tenth of Muharram is called Yawmul Ashura. There a many barakah in fasting on this day. In the beginning this fast was fardh [mandatory] on the Muslims. Sayyidina Rasuli Akram Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim ordered to fast on this particular day. When Allahu ta 'ala made fasting the month of Ramadhan fardh, the fast of Muharram became nafl [optional]. Hazrat Ibn 'Abaas Rathi Allahu ta 'ala anh says that Rasulullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim said: "There is no superiority of fasting on any particular day over another except the fasting during the month of Ramadhan and on the Tenth of Muharram."

It is Mustahaab [highly meritorious] to fast on the ninth and tenth of Muharram. Some 'Ulama [True Islamic Scholars] have said that fasting only on the Tenth of Muharram is makruh [frowned upon\blameworthy] because it is like the fast of the Yahudi [Jews]. If he fast on the eleventh it is better. One should engage in 'Ibaadah on the night of Ashura. He will receive much thawaab from it. One should recite Dua Ashura on the Tenth of Muharram having taken a ghusl [complete bath rinsing mouth and nose in the process] the day before. He should recite four nawaafil rakaats with one niyyat [intentions]. In every rakaat, after Al Hamd Sharif [Suratul Fatihah] , he should recite Suratul Ikhlaas fifteen times and after taslim [salaams] he should recite this Dua' ten times.

The thaawaab of the salaat [esaale sawaab] should be sent on the arwaah [souls] of Sayyidayn wa Shaahidayn Imaams Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Hussayn Ridhwaan Allahu ta 'ala alaihim ajma'een. It will bring the reciter a lot of thawaab as well. Because of the reciter having done this, Sayyidayn wa Shahidayn wa Imamayn Hassan and Husayn will do Shifaa [intercede] for him on the Day of Judgement. The adaab of this particular day is to make ghusl, fast and break fast, make salaat, make Dua', visit the sick, be kind to orphans and make peace between to disputants.

One should cry from fear of Allah, use kohl, give lots of food to the family, put on some attar, guide people who have gone astray. To recite Qur'an Sharif, to recite Kalima Tamjeed seventy [70] times. One should visit the Qabrastan [cemetery], met with friend and relatives, serve parents and abstain from family relationship with the spouse.
